Hello beautiful peepsÖ Scott said that I should introduce myself somewhere in here soÖ.My name is Jeff D. Johnson ñ Iím in the van with all the nice Cloud Cult people for the entirety of this tour as the opening act and sound engineer. There ñ step one completed. J

Anyway, so, Sacramento California ñ I suspect that Scott wanted me to write this tour journal to re-cap my rather interesting adventure in the hotelÖ we will get to that.

We arrived in Sacramento after a few days off where we got to hang a bit on the Oregon coast as well as in northern Cali. It was a beautiful rest after the madness of the Montana, through Seattle to Eugene run. The club was one of the smaller ones weíve played thus far on the tour, but in true Cloud Cult fashion they rocked the souls of the audience regardless of numbers.

After a great set in an intimate setting, we headed back to the Econo Lodge in downtown Sacramento. Upon arriving in room #219, Craig, Connie, Matthew and myself make ourselves at home in the snug accommodations. Craig and Connie graciously offer to sleep on the floor ñ their sacrifice is not rare on tour ñ so that Matt and I could each get our own beds. Well, after watching a PBS special on the Mormon church, I pull back the covers to get in bed only to notice a few small uninvited guests. Upon investigating further, I found that my entire bed is infested with small bed bugsÖ oh yeah, and when I went to commandeer a few of them, they popped into a bloody mess. Needless to say, after a brief and firm convo with the night attendant at the hotel, we were given a different room and slept soundly. Never again will a hotel bed go un-inspected by this fella.

After two weeks of being sick, Iím finally starting to feel a bit better. Itís good timing too, because SF and LA are two important shows on this leg of the tour. Tonight was a tough night, because we drove all day to get here, yet we have to pull an all-nighter driving after the show in order to get to Los Angeles for an AOL video shoot in the morning. Outside of being exhausted, the show, itself, was exhilarating. It was a sold out show here tonight, which is our third SF show in a row that weíve been lucky enough to have so full. I love the SF crowd so much, too. Itís interesting going from city to city to see how different crowds can be. You can be performing to a full house in two different cities and feel like youíre playing to two totally different organisms. One would think that all crowds (of a similar size and paying to see the same band) are pretty much the same. But itís really not like that. Each crowd has the feel of a totally unique organism. Some crowds feel like that old partying buddy from high school who always ended up drinking a little too much whenever you hung out. Some crowds feel like a hard-nosed music critic that really just needs a hug more than anything. Some crowds feel like you just walked in on someoneís surprise birthday party, but no one actually knows whoís birthday it is.. SanFrancisco is a crowd that oozes love like raspberry jam. Itís a crowd that is that long lost aunt who still treats you like youíre her favorite nephew whenever you see her, (even though you have the sneaking suspicion she probably treats all the kids that way). Iím tired, and looking forward to getting back to the farm, but it was really nice to see Auntie SF tonight.

Back in LA... I can say that I feel a bit out of my element here. Although the feeling of Hollywood is about the furthest thing from Minnesota the fans can sure make us right at home! That day we drove straight from San Francisco through the night to the AOL studios for a video shoot in the a.m. The folks at AOL were super kind to us and provided some awesome green room space so we could catch a hour of sleep before the video shooting. (thanks AOL!!) Following the AOL gig we headed to the Knitting Factory for our show. When the set-up was complete we met up with American Superstar Magazine for a interview and photo shoot. After the interview jonathan the photographer was inspired to do some more shots. We had a great time doing the shoot... you can tell a great photographer because it seems effortless to do the shoot and to capture the true personality of the subject matter in a artistic way.

On with the show... in the past it has felt that LA was a little harder to win over due to all the excellent bands in California. Last night was not the case. Other than our trailer getting tagged while we were doing the show LA was super awesome for us. The club has a green room upstairs where we got a chance to hang out with Shawn of Har Mar Superstar / Shawn-Na-Na (another Owatonna native). He told us all the ups and downs of touring with the Chile Peppers and other superstar bands. All in all Shawn is a super down to earth minnesota guy and it was great to catch up with him.

After the show I got a chance to chat with some of the fans and they were awesome. They were super kind and made us totally feel at home and wanting to come back soon to put on another show.

The last time we played in Tucson there were only a handful of people, so we are suprised to find a full house at the Solar Cultural Center; our venue for the evening. Along with live music, the Solar Cultural Center is also an art gallery. It seems that we've found our kind of venue here. Also on the bill are Elf Power, who we also had the priveledge to share a bill with in Missoula. Tucson has a vibe all of its own. And the people at the Solar Cultural Center are great. They feed us a homecooked meal in a back room after our set. Afterwords I check out Elf Power's performance. They are amazing and very seasoned musicians. They've been doing this a lot longer than we have and it shows. I highly recommend you check them out if you haven't already. As we are leaving the venue I notice over a dozen bicycles parked out front; another cool aspect of this town.

Back in the southwest. Last time through Santa Fe it rained cats and dogs. This time it's cold and raining. cough*we're cursed*cough. Santa Fe is a fantastic town though and we were able to spend a few days relaxing before the show. We all took some time to walk around town and check out the many museums, shops, and art galleries.

The show itself was pretty relaxed and the turn out was better this time around. The Santa Fe Brewing Company is a bit out of town so if you're in a band and planning on playing here call for directions before you get lost!

I wake up in Trinidad, Colorado. We walk into town and get some Mexican food. The drive north along the rockies is beautiful. I forgot how big Colorado is; let alone the vast mountain ranges that encompass most of the state. We stay with our friend Barb's brother Bob and his partner Molly. They run a business in downtown Denver where they design, build and sell these hammock chairs. Pretty comfy. Molly makes this awesome chili with real big chunks of garlic in it. Our show is at the Larimer Lounge and also on the bill are Achille Lauro. They have a phenomenal drummer who does some great work with the brushes. The music in general is this spooky theatric sounding lounge stuff. But at times it gets really loud. The crowd is enthusiastic overall tonight. We have a great show despite some technical difficulties at the end. After the show we go back to Bob and Molly's and eat more chili on their roof and gaze at the Denver skyline.
